2009 Offseason Update

Offseason Notes

So football is officially over, it's 2009 and we have about 60 days or so until our first practice. After the depressing end to our Spring 08' season and a lack of enthusiasm in the fall, times are a changin' on the Bombsquad front. I was so annoyed at how spring ball ended that I had absolutely no desire to update this site and finish the stats

Bombsquad Makes First Ever In Season Trade

In a stunning move, Bombsquad GM Darren Valdes traded infielder Eric Oppenheim to Cobra Kai for a right fielder and a pair of nunchucks to be named later. Valdes said about the trade, "Well, we're obviously sad to lose a fixture of our franchise, but we were looking to go in another direction. And I needed new nunchucks." Oppenheim was hitting .381 at the time of the trade with one longball and six RBI.

RCC Field House, Suffern

In a fashion that would have made Mr. Miyagi proud, Bombsquad and Company "Crane Kicked" Cobra Kai all over RCC, winning by a score of 23-1 and 20-something.

In game one of the massacre, err...doubleheader, Darren Valdes fell a single and a double short of the cycle, but drove in four runs (3-3, 2 HR, 3B).

In the bottom of the fourth, short fielder Chris Lima homered twice in one inning, and drove in six runs. For the record, Olive Garden food had nothing to do with the power outburst. It was his college roommate's grilling that did the trick.

Every Bombsquad member had a great day at the plate. Everyone except Justin Bonita. Who can blame the guy though? I mean, Joe is constantly breaking his balls, the umpire screaming in his ear while he's swinging....and the fact that the guy who he car pools with is hitting almost 400 points higher than he is...give the guy a break!

Tim Hekl, Joe Pascale, and Mike Rizzo all pitched in the wins, allowing the least amount of runs in a double header this season.

In case anyone was wondering (or still reading the article at this point) here's the photo of George nailing the runner at third:
