2009 Offseason Update

Offseason Notes

So football is officially over, it's 2009 and we have about 60 days or so until our first practice. After the depressing end to our Spring 08' season and a lack of enthusiasm in the fall, times are a changin' on the Bombsquad front. I was so annoyed at how spring ball ended that I had absolutely no desire to update this site and finish the stats

Bombsquad Makes First Ever In Season Trade

In a stunning move, Bombsquad GM Darren Valdes traded infielder Eric Oppenheim to Cobra Kai for a right fielder and a pair of nunchucks to be named later. Valdes said about the trade, "Well, we're obviously sad to lose a fixture of our franchise, but we were looking to go in another direction. And I needed new nunchucks." Oppenheim was hitting .381 at the time of the trade with one longball and six RBI.

MANNY WELDER FIELD, NEW YORK

Los Panchos and Bombsquad met on a rain soaked field this morning, as Los Panchos won los gamos, beating la Bombsquados in los doubleheaderouses.

The Bombsquad made both games interesting, keeping the #1 team in the league (Panchos) on their toes. Going into the bottom of the seventh, the Bombers held a one run lead, but Panchos batters came alive, nailing down the win with a walk-off, run scoring double.

The second game saw Los Panchos jumping out to an early lead, but Bombsquad and Company battled back, eventually losing by two runs after a two out bottom of the seventh rally fell short.

Mike Rizzo continued to flash leather in the outfield, as seen in this picture on the right.

This weekend's double header saw the return of Jeremy Erlich from the 365 day disabled list.
Elrich quickly put himself back on the DL at the end of the double header.

Bombsquad fill-in Dan Moschetti earned the title of "Los Panchos Whipping Boy" after taking numerous line drives off his chest/arm/shoulder/noggin/left foot/right foot/elbow/fibula.

Bombsquad "paranoid" middle infielder Chris Lima continues to believe that the Rockland county umpires are out to get him, after striking out twice this Sunday.

Finally, Bombsquad skipper George Reilly hit the team's first grand slam of the season. Must have been the Olive Garden.
